Chelsea, Manchester United 'to compete for Philippe Coutinho'

Chelsea and Manchester United will battle for the signature of Barcelona attacker Philippe Coutinho this summer, according to a report.

Chelsea and Manchester United will reportedly go head-to-head for the signature of Barcelona attacker Philippe Coutinho in this summer's transfer window.

Coutinho joined Barca from Liverpool in January 2018 and has scored 19 times in 63 appearances for the Spanish champions in all competitions.

The 26-year-old has largely struggled for consistency at Camp Nou, however, and has reportedly told Brazil teammates that he wants to leave the club.

According to The Express, United have enquired about the playmaker's availability, but the Red Devils will face strong competition from Chelsea.

The Blues are currently banned from signing new players but will attempt to postpone the suspension in order to spend big in this summer's transfer window.

Coutinho scored 54 times and contributed 45 assists in 201 appearances for Liverpool before joining Barca in a deal which could eventually reach £142m.
