Harry Maguire admits Manchester United have 'let themselves down' this season

:Headline: Harry Maguire admits Manchester United have 'let themselves down' this season:
Harry Maguire claims that Manchester United only have themselves to blame for their lack of consistency this campaign, despite recently picking up an 11-game unbeaten run.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has claimed that his side only have themselves to blame for their lack of consistency this campaign.

The newly-appointed skipper, who joined the Red Devils last summer, helped the club to an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions prior to the coronavirus shutdown.

However, the England international has admitted that the results at the start of the season mean the Manchester outfit are now in a difficult spot to compete for a top-four place this campaign.

The 27-year-old told a fans' Q&A: "As a Red, our toughest opponent, probably, is ourselves. I would say that, at times this year, as a team, we have probably let ourselves down by being a bit too inconsistent. Not just for a full game but during games.

"There have been times when we've been so good in games and then we've come off it a bit and been punished. So I'd say our toughest opponent is ourselves.

"We need to be mentally strong. We are a young group but we don't really want to use that as an excuse. We want to be young but play mature. That is where we have really picked up in recent weeks."

Manchester United currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League, just three points behind Chelsea prior to the outbreak of COVID-19. body check tags ::
