Ian Wright: 'Bruno Fernandes could contribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dismissal'

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says that Manchester United attacker Bruno Fernandes could contribute to Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer losing his job.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has claimed that Manchester United attacker Bruno Fernandes could play a leading role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer losing his position as head coach of the English giants.

The speculation surrounding Solskjaer's future has gathered pace following back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir, with Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann mentioned as possible replacements for the Norwegian.

Wright has claimed that "ambitious players" at the club, including January arrival Fernandes, will start to increase the pressure if the poor results continue.

"What you'll find is, especially the ambitious players – the ones who want to get to where Man United are supposed to be. What you'll start hearing out of there is you'll start hearing things from people," Wright told BBC Sport.

"The players will start saying things because they want a manager who's going to push them. Bruno Fernandes, you're hearing little snippets that he's not happy for some reason.

"That's what's going to start happening because as much as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems like a nice bloke and everybody likes him, you get to a certain level as a player where you're thinking, 'that's not enough for me, I need more than this'."

United are currently 15th in the Premier League table ahead of Saturday's trip to Everton, which former Arsenal forward Paul Merson has branded 'the biggest game of Solskjaer's managerial career'.
