Ed Woodward 'schedules clear-the-air talks with Jose Mourinho'

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward reportedly schedules clear-the-air talks with manager Jose Mourinho amid ongoing speculation over his future.

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reportedly scheduled clear-the-air talks with manager Jose Mourinho on Thursday.

The pair are understood to have endured a fractious relationship since Woodward failed to land Mourinho's top transfer targets during the summer, with the Portuguese making a number of thinly-veiled swipes at the quality of his disposal this season.

United's poor form on the field and relentless reports of fallouts with players off it have led to Mourinho's job coming under intense scrutiny, to the point where he was reportedly just one game away from the sack.

Last Saturday's dramatic comeback win over Newcastle United is understood to have been enough to buy Mourinho more time, but The Express reports that his job is still under threat if the club's form does not improve.

Woodward will now meet the former Chelsea boss in an attempt to clear the air, with Mourinho hopeful that he will be reassured of his position amid claims that United are already lining up a successor.

Mourinho is also hopeful of using the meeting to convince Woodward to splash the cash in January in order to bolster his squad.
