Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany has said that he 'will have a conservation' with Wout Weghorst this summer to discuss the forward's future.

The 30-year-old arrived at Turf Moor from Wolfsburg in January 2022, and he made 20 appearances for the Clarets in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign, scoring twice.

The Netherlands international left Burnley following their relegation to the Championship, joining Besiktas on loan, and he managed nine goals in 18 appearances for the Turkish giants before Manchester United signed him on loan during the January transfer window.

Weghorst has been a regular during his time at Old Trafford, featuring on 28 occasions in all competitions, but he has only managed two goals and three assists.

The Red Devils have allegedly decided that they will not be making an attempt to sign the experienced forward on a permanent basis during this summer's transfer window.

There had been suggestions that Weghorst could arrive alongside a big-name striker, but the Dutchman has found it difficult to score goals during his time at Old Trafford.

Besiktas are thought to be open to re-signing the forward on a permanent basis in the upcoming market, but he still has two years left to run on his contract at Turf Moor.

Burnley will be back in the Premier League for the 2023-24 campaign, and Kompany has suggested that there could be a future for Weghorst at Turf Moor.

"He's a player from Burnley football club who has played in the top four of the Premier League for Manchester United and also for Holland," The Mirror quotes Kompany as saying.

"The most important thing for me – and it's a tough one for me to say obviously because of the cup final – is for him personally to finish the season on a high. But still, I want him to do well and we will have the conversation."

Weghorst has played 15 times in the Premier League since arriving at Old Trafford but has failed to find the back of the net, while he has only managed one assist.

Anthony Martial's recent return to fitness has seen the Dutchman drop down to the bench following a run of starts, while he was only a substitute against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday despite Marcus Rashford being out through injury.

Weghorst has only failed to feature in two league games since his arrival at Man United, though, and he started against West Ham United last weekend.

The Red Devils will face Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham in their final three league matches of the season before taking on Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3. body check tags ::
