Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'to land Manchester United job'

By , European Football Editor | 4d
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the sole candidate for the Manchester United job, according to a report.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly the sole candidate for the Manchester United job, with the Red Devils not discussing the position with any other head coach.

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as manager of the 20-time English champions in December, but he was only expected to remain in charge until the end of the season, when a new long-term boss would be appointed.

The club's former striker has performed miracles since arriving at Old Trafford, however, suffering just one defeat in all competitions and leading the team back into top-four contention in the Premier League.

According to ESPN, Solskjaer is 'the only serious candidate' to succeed Mourinho, with United not approaching any other manager to discuss the position.

Tottenham Hotspur's Mauricio Pochettino and Juventus's Massimiliano Allegri were both believed to be under consideration, but it now appears that Solskjaer will land the role on a long-term basis.

United will be looking to make it back-to-back Premier League wins when they welcome Southampton to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
