Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson tips Scott McTominay to become a box-to-box midfielder for the Red Devils.

Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson has claimed that Scott McTominay could become a box-to-box midfielder for the Red Devils and contribute as many as 15 goals a season.

McTominay has largely played as a holding midfielder for the Red Devils since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival as head coach, but he scored seven times in all competitions last season.

The 24-year-old is yet to get off the mark in terms of goals this term, but Robson has tipped the Scotland international to become an attacking weapon for the club if he improves his finishing.

"I think coaches either want an attacking midfield player or they want a sitting midfield player, but I still think that there's people out there that can do box to box and they've just got to work a little bit harder on getting the finishing right and I think we've got one at this club - Scott McTominay," the Daily Mail quotes Robson as saying.

"I don't think he has to be a sitting midfield player and just be classed as a defending midfield player. He scored seven goals last year and I think where maybe Scott can improve as a player is just to try and get to anywhere between 10 and 15 goals a season and as a central midfield player, if you stay away from injury, then you can achieve that and I think Scott's got that in his locker."

Robson scored 99 goals in 461 appearances for Man United between 1981 and 1994, winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup during his time at Old Trafford. body check tags ::
