Mohamed Salah has become Liverpool's all-time leading Premier League goalscorer courtesy of his brace in his side's historic 7-0 triumph over Manchester United this evening.

The Egyptian winger went into the match with 127 Premier League goals to his name for Liverpool, sitting just one behind legendary striker Robbie Fowler.

Salah equalled that tally with a thunderous half-volley from the edge of the box to make it 4-0 after 66 minutes, lashing a right-footed effort in off the underside of the crossbar after Darwin Nunez's pass deflected into his path off Scott McTominay.

Goal number 129 came 17 minutes later when he turned home from close range after Luke Shaw had failed to clear his lines, making it 6-0 on the night.

Salah now sits clear on his own as the player with the most Premier League goals for Liverpool, ahead of the likes of Fowler, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen.

Salah has reached his tally in just 205 games, 61 games fewer than it took Fowler, with 10 of those goals coming against Manchester United - another joint-record alongside Alan Shearer's 10-goal tally against the Red Devils.

Speaking about his record after the match, Salah told Sky Sports News: "It's very special, I can't lie. This record was in my mind since I came here. After my first season I was always chasing the record.

"To get it today against United with that result is unbelievable. I'm going home to celebrate with the family, Chamomile tea and sleep.

"It is very special to win a game like that. We need to stay humble and win our games. Hopefully it will give us a big push."

The 30-year-old was congratulated on his achievement by the man whose record he took, with Fowler in attendance to witness Liverpool's biggest-ever win over their greatest rivals.

In addition to Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez also helped themselves to braces on a memorable night at Anfield as they put Man United to the sword.

Roberto Firmino then completed the rout with the seventh of the night late on, scoring in the week it was announced that he would be leaving the club.

The defeat is Man United's joint-biggest in their entire history, and the first time they have been beaten by such a heavy margin since 1931.

The EFL Cup champions must now look to bounce back against Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday night, while Liverpool are next in action against Bournemouth next Saturday. body check tags ::
