Steve McClaren is reportedly close to being confirmed as a member of Erik ten Hag's backroom staff at Manchester United.

Now that Ajax have won the Eredivisie title, Ten Hag is now prepared to give more thought to life at Old Trafford having agreed to replace Ralf Rangnick.

Previously, it has been claimed that the Dutchman is keen to have familiar faces alongside him in his new job, as well as someone who has strong knowledge of United as a club.

That makes McClaren the natural choice, Ten Hag having previously been a number two to McClaren at FC Twente and the 61-year-old having previously been assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to The Guardian, United will soon confirm that former England manager McClaren is returning to the Premier League giants.

The report adds that Ten Hag's Ajax assistant Mitchell van der Gaag is also due to arrive at the club having agree terms over his contract. body check tags ::
