Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku: Jose Mourinho relationship is "perfect"

Forward Romelu Lukaku says that his relationship with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is "perfect", despite opting against a start in the FA Cup final.

Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku has insisted that his relationship with manager Jose Mourinho is "perfect" despite admitting that the pair had "a little chat" after the FA Cup final.

Earlier this month, United succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea and after the game, Mourinho appeared to be critical of Lukaku by claiming that the Belgian international did not want to start the match at Wembley Stadium due to an ankle problem.

Lukaku has acknowledged that he requested to be placed on the bench against his former club but has indicated that he and Mourinho have been able to clear the air.

At a press conference, the 25-year-old told reporters: "I didn't look good in training at all. It was a difficult situation. Obviously me and the manager had a conversation, he's the one that made the decision.

"We had a conversation after the game, where we were both disappointed that we lost the game. I said to him, 'I'm looking forward to next season', to see the team that he is going to prepare for next year to hopefully challenge Manchester City.

"Everybody is thinking me and the manager has a big issue or something, but it's not like that, me and the manager have a perfect relationship. We had a little chat after the game and everything is all clear."

Lukaku is currently with the Belgium squad ahead of the World Cup, with coach Roberto Martinez saying that the frontman must prove his fitness ahead of the tournament in Russia.
