Incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly wants the club's young players to be the focal point of his new-look side.

A raft of personnel changes are set to occur on and off the pitch for the Red Devils this summer, as Ten Hag prepares to take the reins from Ralf Rangnick.

Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Lee Grant and Edinson Cavani are all set to move on when their contracts expire, while Nemanja Matic has already confirmed his imminent exit.

A number of other Man United players have also seen their futures called into question amid a dismal campaign, including the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Eric Bailly, Dean Henderson and Phil Jones.

However, The Mirror claims that Rashford could now be handed a lifeline at Man United, as Ten Hag is keen to focus on his young crop of players for his Old Trafford rebuild, although 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo will be staying put.

The report adds that Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga and Scott McTominay could also feature prominently in the rebuild, with the trio enduring mixed fortunes in the 2021-22 season.

Sancho has so far failed to justify his £76.5m price tag since arriving from Borussia Dortmund and has only amassed three goals and three assists in 29 Premier League outings this term.

McTominay has been a mainstay of the midfield, while Elanga has broken into the squad with 26 appearances in all tournaments, scoring three goals and setting up two more.

Ten Hag will also have academy prospects in Shola Shoretire, Alejandro Garnacho, Alvaro Fernandez and Hannibal Mejbri knocking on the door, as well as returning loan players.

Donny van de Beek could be given the chance to resurrect his Man United career under his former boss, while James Garner and Amad Diallo also prepare to return to the club.

The dressing room at Man United was allegedly described by Lingard as a "disaster" to Paul Scholes, and Ten Hag has emphasised the importance of internal harmony.

"What it's all about is the dressing room, you need to be able to manage the dressing room. You have to make it function. That's how you win games," Ten Hag told the media.

"It's time to turn the switch now. It's something that is needed because there is a lot to take care of and I have the energy for it."

As well as the emergence of young players, Ten Hag will supposedly have a nine-figure transfer budget to improve the squad with, and the Dutchman is expected to welcome at least one new midfielder and striker to the club.

Frenkie De Jong was believed to be a priority target for Man United, but the 25-year-old has now reportedly told Barcelona that he wants to stay at Camp Nou. body check tags ::
