Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly undergoing extra training in order to improve his ball-playing abilities.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to have ordered the Spanish shot-stopper to work on his skills with the ball as the Norwegian seeks to instil a philosophy of playing out from the back at Old Trafford.

These training sessions have involved the 28-year-old training only with his feet for at least 30 minutes at a time, with the ball fired back towards him to replicate backwards passes from his defenders under pressure, according to The Sun.

A new rule change in the Premier League this season allows defenders to receive the ball from goal-kicks inside their own penalty area and also allows goal-kicks to be blocked or intercepted in the penalty box, aiding teams that look to play out from the back - something Solskjaer is keen to take advantage of.

Solskjaer is confident that new arrival Harry Maguire is a centre-back who is very comfortable in possession, further emphasising the shift in style the club are looking to implement.
