Man City's Kevin De Bruyne: 'Beating Manchester United will not mean anything'

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne claims that beating Manchester United will be meaningless if the club end the season without silverware.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has played down the significance of this Sunday's derby against Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola's side have an opportunity to take an 11-point advantage over the Red Devils if they win at Old Trafford.

The team are in scintillating form having won 13 league matches on the trot, and they are so far unbeaten in all competitions.

De Bruyne, though, believes that City's impressive stats will be meaningless if they end the season without a trophy.

"I'd prefer to be 11 points ahead than five or eight because it's better and means we almost have a four-game advantage," The Telegraph quotes De Bruyne as saying.

"It's a good gap but doesn't mean anything. Football goes very quick. It's a busy two months when things can change but the way we're going is good and we need to continue that.

"Yes [20 wins in a row is an achievement] but it doesn't matter if you don't win anything at the end of the season. Nobody will care about it then. If we don't win anything at the end of the season, are you are going to talk about the 20 wins we have now? It is phenomenal but obviously we want to win in the end."

De Bruyne has scored four goals and provided eight assists in 15 league games.
