Antonio Conte has reportedly rejected the chance to become Newcastle United's new manager, as the Italian holds out for the position at Manchester United.

The 52-year-old led Inter Milan to last season's Serie A title but left the club at the end of the campaign due to differences with the board.

According to Italian journalist Fabio Santini, Newcastle have approached Conte to offer him the opportunity to become the club's new head coach following their lucrative takeover.

However, Santini claims that the Italian turned down the Magpies, as he is "waiting for a call from Manchester United".

The pressure is building on Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following a poor run of form, although the 20-time English champions allegedly have no plans to sack the Norwegian for the moment.

Conte, who won the Premier League and FA Cup during his time in charge of Chelsea, has allegedly already identified his first signing as Man United boss if he gets the call from the club.

The Red Devils will face Atalanta BC in the Champions League on Wednesday night before welcoming bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. body check tags ::
