Sunday's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup: James Rodriguez, Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Sunday, November 8.

A frustrating summer transfer window has now closed with Manchester United having missed out on a number of their top targets, including Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils were busy on deadline day, though, bringing in Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri, in addition to agreeing a deal to sign Amad Traore in January. Attention will now switch to other business they may do when the window reopens in the winter.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Old Trafford.

Sunday morning's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup:

James Rodriguez reveals Manchester United offer

Everton attacker James Rodriguez has revealed that Manchester United attempted to sign him in 2012.

The 29-year-old turned out for Porto between 2010 and 2013 before joining Monaco, spending one season with the Ligue 1 side ahead of a switch to Real Madrid in 2014.

Rodriguez largely struggled to make his mark at the Bernabeu, though, and after a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich and a disappointing 2019-20 season with Madrid, the Colombia international joined Everton during the recent transfer window.

The attacker is expected to line up against United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, and he has revealed that the 20-time English champions made an offer for him eight years ago.

"I believe it was in 2012. The club [Man Utd] had offered me something, but in the end that didn't happen because of some reason I don't know. But well - football always leads you to the correct path, to a team where you can actually play well," Rodriguez told BT Sport.

The South American has been in impressive form for the Toffees during the 2020-21 campaign, contributing three goals and four assists in seven appearances in all competitions.

Barcelona 'to offload five players in January'

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to ship out a quintet of players during the January transfer window as they aim to raise funds for future business.

Like many clubs across the globe, the Catalan giants have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and are facing losses of up to £88m in the wake of the ongoing outbreak.

Barcelona are believed to be embroiled in an internal battle with players and staff over wage cuts, and the La Liga powerhouses are now supposedly looking to sell a number of players in a further attempt to decrease their wage bill.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Ousmane Dembele, Martin Braithwaite, Carles Alena, Junior Firpo and Samuel Umtiti could all be heading for the Camp Nou exit door in a couple of months' time.

Manchester United were linked with a swoop for Dembele during the summer but the Frenchman ultimately remained in Catalonia, although a recent report has suggested that the Red Devils still harbour an interest in the former Borussia Dortmund man.

Barcelona have suffered an underwhelming start to the 2020-21 La Liga season with two wins, two draws and two losses from their opening six matches.
