Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has returned to training after over a month out of action due to a hamstring injury sustained in September.

The 25-year-old has fought his way back into contention as first-choice right-back since the arrival of Erik ten Hag from Ajax last summer, competing with Portugal international Diogo Dalot.

Wan-Bissaka managed 19 appearances in the Premier League for the Red Devils last term - 16 of which arrived from the start - as the Old Trafford club secured Champions League football.

The former Crystal Palace man looked set for an exit from the club at points in 2022, however the defender is now back in favour and has racked up 165 appearances since joining in June 2019.

Following six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, Wan-Bissaka has been pictured returning to training at Man United's Carrington base in the last few days.

The former England youth international has stepped up his rehabilitation from the issue on the grass, however it is understood that the right-back is not back in full training just yet.

Consequently, it is unlikely that Wan-Bissaka will feature in any capacity as Ten Hag's side host local rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

The Red Devils are set to hand Dalot another start on the right side of their defence against Pep Guardiola's Citizens, with United looking to make it four straight wins in all competitions.

With Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez long-term absentees for Man United, the swift return of Wan-Bissaka will be welcomed, although the defender will not be rushed back into first-team action.

According to the Daily Mail, Ten Hag is hopeful of having Wan-Bissaka available in around 10 days, meaning that he could be in contention to play against Fulham on November 4 in the Premier League.

The right-back has not featured for the Manchester club since the 3-1 home loss against Brighton & Hove Albion in the middle of September, when former United man Danny Welbeck came back to haunt his former employers by netting the opening goal of the contest.

Ten Hag has been forced to be creative with his defensive selections so far this term, with supporters witnessing a centre-back partnership of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans on a couple of occasions in recent matches.

As Wan-Bissaka steps up his recovery ahead of a return to first-team duties, his United teammates face tricky tests against Man City and Newcastle United within the next week. body check tags ::
