Manchester United's most valuable players

Sports Mole takes a look at the most valuable players in the Manchester United squad.

Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013, but the club finally appear to be heading in the right direction once again.

Indeed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side had been in excellent form before play was postponed last month, winning eight of their last 11 matches in all competitions, remaining unbeaten in the process.

The Red Devils are fifth in the Premier League table, just three points off fourth-placed Chelsea, although it is currently unclear whether the current season will be allowed to resume.

A number of individuals have had impressive campaigns for the 20-time English champions, and here Sports Mole takes a look at the club's most valuable players.

In truth, it is not a surprise to see Paul Pogba at the top of the list. The 27-year-old will be out of contract next summer, but United do have the option of activating an additional 12 months. The midfielder has not played since December due to an ankle injury, but he is the club's most talented footballer, and it will be fascinating to see what happens with the France international during this summer's transfer window.

Marcus Rashford's selection is also not a surprise with the 22-year-old enjoying his best-ever scoring season before picking up a back injury in January. The attacker has 19 goals in all competitions this term and has developed into one of the team's most important players.

Harry Maguire became the world's most expensive centre-back when he arrived from Leicester City last summer, and the England international has been excellent in recent weeks. Appointed club captain following Ashley Young's January exit, the 27-year-old has improved as the season has progressed and deserves to be towards the top end of the selection with a valuation of £63m.

The fact that Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes also have high market values is understandable as both have enjoyed impressive campaigns, but David de Gea is only sixth in the list with a valuation of £45m, and it would be fair to say that the Spain international has not been at his best over the last 12 months or so.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof have both improved as the season has progressed and are in the next crop of players, which also includes 18-year-old Mason Greenwood, who has 12 goals in all competitions this term.

Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira, who have both been linked with moves away from the club, have variations of £19.8m and £18m respectively, while Juan Mata is also fairly low with £10.8m.

Brandon Williams has become an important figure for the club and is rising with £10.8m rather than falling, but it is not a surprise to see the likes of Phil Jones and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in low positions; the latter is out of contract this summer and his future is unclear.

Lee Grant and Sergio Romero - number three and number two to De Gea respectively - are the bottom two, while the lowest-valued outfield player is on-loan striker Odion Ighalo. The Nigerian has scored four times in eight appearances since his arrival, though, and could join on a permanent deal this summer.

Fred's valuation of £19.8m is also perhaps slightly on the low side considering that the Brazil international has been in excellent form for Solskjaer's side over the last few months.
