Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes reportedly threatened to leave the Red Devils after he learned that the club were involved in the proposed European Super League.

Fernandes arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side could have lost the Portuguese international just over a year later when the club were among 11 other teams to sign up for the breakaway competition.

The Athletic reports that Fernandes joined teammate Luke Shaw in speaking out about the proposed plans and the Man United duo were believed to claim that Ed Woodward treated the players like 'children' and 'assets'.

To certify his stance against the European Super League, the report suggests that Fernandes was ready to push through a transfer request if the club continued with their plans.

Fernandes and Shaw were two of many professional players to voice their opinions on the matter at that time, including Daniel Podence, Dejan Lovren, Mesut Ozil and Yannick Bolasie.

The 27-year-old has been an influential signing for Man United, scoring 44 times and providing 29 assists in 91 appearances for the club so far. body check tags ::
