Charlie Nicholas: 'Paul Pogba would not play against Sevilla even if fit'

Charlie Nicholas says that Paul Pogba would miss out on the Manchester United team for their Champions League clash against Sevilla even if he were fit.

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has suggested that Paul Pogba would miss out on the Manchester United XI against Sevilla even if he were fit.

Jose Mourinho's side have a huge game on Tuesday night when they take on the Spanish team in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

The contest is evenly poised as the two clubs played out a goalless draw in the first leg.

Pogba has been the subject of paper talk recently as Mourinho has dropped the midfielder a number of times, and questions have been raised over the Frenchman's long-term future.

The £89m man was left out of the squad that earned a 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Saturday due to an injury picked up in training, and he has not yet been ruled out of the midweek tie.

"This might not be as big for the fans, but this is as big as Saturday in terms of it being huge for them to be in Champions League quarter-finals," Nicholas told Sky Sports News. "I am expecting United to go through, mainly because this is the poorest Sevilla side in years.

"Even if Paul Pogba was fit I don't think he would get in the United team, as he has suffered from the confusion that Alexis Sanchez's arrival has brought to the team.

"Anthony Martial has suffered as well but it is their biggest young talent, Marcus Rashford, who has suffered the most. He came in for a big game and did the business, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's back on the bench."

So far, Liverpool and Manchester City are the only English clubs to have secured a quarter-final place.
