Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the Citizens will attempt to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.

The Premier League champions did not sign a replacement for Sergio Aguero at the end of the 2020-21 season and have used numerous players in the number nine position throughout the current campaign.

Guardiola recently revealed that his side tried and failed four times to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham Hotspur, and the Catalan coach has affirmed that the club will attempt to bolster their forward ranks next summer.

"I think the club needs a striker, definitely. You say we play fantastically well without a striker because we are winning," Guardiola told reporters at a press conference.

"You say we play fantastically well without a striker because we are winning. In the Premier League you have to play with a striker. We try, but sometimes it's not possible."

City are expected to be one of several sides battling for Erling Braut Haaland's signature in the summer, with the Borussia Dortmund man rumoured to possess a £67m release clause in his current contract. body check tags ::
