Manchester City reportedly failed with a £60m bid for Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze on the final day of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign for the Eagles last term, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 38 Premier League appearances, representing his best top-flight return.

Eze gained international recognition for his performances at Selhurst Park, earning a first call-up to England's senior side, making his Three Lions debut in a European Championship qualifier against Malta in June.

The attacker has featured 97 times for Roy Hodgson's men since moving from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2020, making the net ripple on 15 occasions over a three-year period.

According to The Mirror, Manchester City were unsuccessful in their attempts to bring Eze to the Etihad on the final day of the transfer window, with Crystal Palace rejecting a bid for their player.

The report claims that the Citizens offered the Eagles £60m for the transfer of the England international, however the bid did not meet Palace's valuation of the playmaker.

It is understood that Hodgson's side were looking to pocket £80m from the sale of Eze this summer, and they were supposedly unwilling to accept an approach lower than their asking price.

With Eze staying put at Selhurst Park past the transfer window deadline, it is now expected that the 25-year-old will be rewarded with fresh terms at the club.

It is believed that the player would have favoured a move to the treble-winning Citizens, however, as the attacker wanted to develop his game under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.

Man City had money to spend in the final moments of the window, having sold academy graduate Cole Palmer to Premier League rivals Chelsea for £42.5m on Friday.

The 21-year-old has netted crucial goals in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup for City since the beginning of the term, however Guardiola was willing to part ways with the England Under-21 international.

Matheus Nunes arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day for £53m, with the English champions focusing on bolstering their midfield in the closing stages of the window due to the absence of Kevin De Bruyne because of injury.

Eze featured in Crystal Palace's EFL Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night, assisting two goals as the Eagles ran out 4-2 winners at Home Park, securing a third-round tie at Old Trafford against Manchester United later this month.

The one-time England international is fully expected to be included in his side's starting XI when they host Wolves at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.
