Barcelona reportedly inform Sergio Aguero that he will only be a bit-part player next season, and the Argentine has accepted that role.

Barcelona have reportedly told Sergio Aguero that he will have to be content with a bit-part role at Camp Nou during the 2021-22 season.

The Argentine ended his glittering 10-year spell at Manchester City earlier this year, and Barcelona won the race for his services despite reported interest from several Premier League sides.

However, Aguero's farewell season at the Etihad was not a memorable one, as he managed a mere six goals across all competitions while struggling with injury problems.

Given the wealth of attacking talent at Ronald Koeman's disposal, AS reports that Aguero has accepted his role as a rotation player, with the Blaugrana coach pinning his hopes on Ansu Fati to enjoy regular starts once he recovers from his long-term layoff.

Memphis Depay has also arrived at Camp Nou on a free transfer from Lyon, but doubts persist over the futures of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

Barcelona are reported to be facing crippling debts of over £1bn, though, and new signings such as Aguero supposedly cannot be registered until the club trim their wage bill further. body check tags ::
