Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is hopeful than Brazilian duo Ederson and Gabriel Jesus can play in Saturday's Premier League clash away at Leicester City.

The Citizens prevented both players from travelling to South America during September's international break, which led to FIFA invoking a five-day ban at the request of the Brazilian FA.

Both Ederson and Jesus are now set to miss out against Leicester this weekend as a result, and Guardiola has stated that the decision made by the Brazilian FA "makes no sense" amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, the Premier League are currently in discussions with FIFA and the Brazilian FA on the matter, and Guardiola remains optimistic that both players can be permitted to play at the King Power Stadium.

"Right now it isn't clear. Hopefully they can play we'll wait and see if there is good news. The club didn't inform me anything. We will wait tomorrow if they can play or not," the Spaniard said to the press ahead of Saturday's game with Leicester.

"For my experience, what I heard, the Premier League had a meeting saying 'we are going to do it' then after that people go for what is the best for themselves. We will wait for FIFA and the Premier League and after tomorrow we decide."

If this matter cannot be resolved, then City are set to name third-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson in their starting lineup, as number two Zack Steffen is in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 on international duty with the USA. body check tags ::
