Sterling 'tried to get Gomez in headlock'

Raheem Sterling allegedly tried to get England teammate Joe Gomez in a headlock as the pair clashed during training earlier this week. According to The Athletic, the brawl began when Gomez approached Sterling to say hello, just 24 hours after the duo came up against each other in Liverpool's win over Manchester City. Sterling is said to have asked Gomez "So you think you're the big man?" before getting up and wrangling with the defender.

Robertson: 'Man City still the ones to beat'

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has said that Manchester City remain the club's closest challengers for the Premier League title, despite strong starts to the season from Leicester City and Chelsea.

Speaking after the Reds defeated City 3-1 at Anfield on Sunday, Robertson told the club's website: "[The win was] massive for us. A big game against our closest rivals from last year. Both of us were in a league of their own last year and it looks as if there's going to be a couple of others sniffing about this year. But I still believe if you finish above Man City then I think you'll get the title. It's a massive win for us and it's just another one that we've got to tick off. There's still a long, long way to go, but it's always nice to beat your rivals."

Cardiff talking to Neil Harris?

Cardiff City have approached former Millwall manager Neil Harris about their managerial vacancy following the departure of Neil Warnock earlier this week, according to the Daily Mail. The 42-year-old decided to leave the Lions last month after four-and-a-half years at the helm.

Moyes: 'Celtic and Rangers would be mid-table in Premier League'

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has claimed that Scottish powerhouses Celtic and Rangers would be mid-table teams were they to ever join the Premier League. The idea of the Old Firm duo one day joining the top flight has been mooted for some time, although there is debate over how the sides would stack up against England's elite.

"With the money, and sometimes the people in England will laugh at it, with the money both clubs have got, both clubs would be mid-table in the Premier League," Moyes told BBC Sport. "I genuinely don't think they could touch the big clubs over the piece. Could they avoid relegation? I think so. It wouldn't be easy but I think to see the two really big clubs in this country compete down south would be something a lot of people would get a lot of pride in."

Napoli in line for £480m takeover?

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is considering a €560m (£480m) takeover offer from the Qatar-based Al-Thani family, according to the Daily Mail. The situation is turning increasingly ugly at the Italian side following their poor start to the season, which has seen them win just five of their first 12 games in the Serie A.

Tom Davies 'would love to emulate Gerrard'

Everton midfielder Tom Davies has said that he is flattered with comparisons to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and would "love" to emulate his success with the Toffees. The 21-year-old - widely tipped to be a future Everton captain - was on the scoresheet last weekend as his side claimed a 2-1 win at Southampton.

Asked about Gerrard, Davies told the Liverpool Echo: "He was a quality player. To even be compared to him is just good to hear. He is a local lad – around the city everyone knows him. If I can do that for Everton, that's the idea. I'd love to do that. I wouldn't say I'm exactly the same as him but in my head I know I can be a top quality player. My main focus is improving my game."

Gazza offered 'Strictly' in Italy?

Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been offered a deal to appear on the Italian version of Strictly Come Dancing, according to a report in The Sun. The 52-year-old, who played for Lazio between 1992 and 1995, was recently found not guilty of assaulting a woman on a train last year.

Liverpool, Wolves chasing Scottish teenager?

Premier League pair Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool are among a clutch of sides following 15-year-old Scottish starlet Bruno Davidson, according to the Daily Record. The teenager - currently playing for Hutchison Vale - is said to have already been offered a deal by Celtic but is also being courted by Leicester City, Southampton, Sunderland and West Ham United. body check tags ::
