Liverpool have reportedly suffered a blow in their pursuit of Karim Adeyemi, with the Red Bull Salzburg starlet preferring a move to Germany.

Adeyemi has hit the ground running for the Austrian champions in the 2021-22 season, chalking up 11 goals and two assists from 16 games, including two penalties in a Champions League win over Lille.

The 19-year-old's form has supposedly attracted the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs, with Liverpool said to have been in pole position to sign him in 2022.

However, Sky Deutschland claims that the Germany international is keen to return to his homeland amid interest from RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

The report adds that all three clubs have already touched base with Adeyemi's camp, but it may take up to £34m to sign the former Bayern youth product, whose deal with Salzburg does not expire until 2024.

Adeyemi boasts a total of 21 goals and 17 assists in 66 games for Leipzig across all tournaments and has been called up to the Germany squad for October's World Cup qualifiers with Romania and North Macedonia. body check tags ::
