Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren could reportedly be heading for Roma this summer, with discussions between the two clubs intensifying over the last few days.

Lovren is behind Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk in the pecking order at Anfield, and it has been suggested that the Croatia international will be leaving Anfield before the end of the month.

The centre-back was not involved in Liverpool's Premier League opener against Norwich City on Friday night, with Matip selected on the bench as back up to Gomez and Van Dijk.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma director Gianluca Petrachi met with Lovren's agents at the end of last week in the hope of securing a swoop for the Croatia international.

The report claims that Roma want to take the 30-year-old on loan for the 2019-20 campaign with the option to buy next summer in a deal which would be worth £17m to the Reds.

The 2018 World Cup finalist has made 170 appearances for Liverpool since a 2014 move from Southampton.
