Barcelona will reportedly attempt to sign a new midfielder during the January transfer window.

The Catalan giants were strongly linked with Georginio Wijnaldum ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, but the Netherlands international ultimately agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Liverpool.

Gavi and Nico Gonzalez have both been pressed into first-team action at Camp Nou this term, but according to Sport, Barcelona want to sign a new midfielder at the start of 2022.

The La Liga outfit's CEO Ferran Reverter recently revealed that the club would have funds to spend during the January transfer window despite their financial problems.

Ronald Koeman's side are also believed to be interested in signing a low-cost centre-forward at the start of 2022, with Valencia's Maxi Gomez and Liverpool's Divock Origi both linked with moves to the club.

Barcelona will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats to Benfica and Atletico Madrid when they continue their La Liga campaign at home to Valencia after the international break. body check tags ::
