Pep Guardiola has broken a Premier League winning record previously set by Arsene Wenger after Manchester City secured a deserved 4-1 victory against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Citizens fell behind on the 17-minute mark through Mohamed Salah, but they responded in ruthless fashion, with Julian Alvarez's equaliser 10 minutes later followed by second-half strikes from Kevin De Buryne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish to help the hosts secure maximum points.

The reigning Premier League champions have now won four top-flight games in a row for the first time this season and have moved to within five points of leaders Arsenal, who are hoping to move eight points clear with a win over Leeds United later this afternoon.

City's victory over Liverpool has seen Guardiola rack up 100 Premier League victories at the Etihad Stadium in 128 games, with the Citizens scoring 360 goals and conceded just 102 in the process.

In doing so, the Spaniard has become the quickest manager to reach a century of home wins in the competition.

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger previously held the record after guiding the Gunners to 100 home victories in 139 matches.

Guardiola, who is hoping to lift a fifth Premier League title with City, has labelled his side's most recent home triumph over Liverpool as "one of the best" in his seven years in charge at the club.

"From minute one to minute 93 it was a perfect performance – even though we concede a goal we played really well," Guardiola told BT Sport after the match.

"They (Liverpool) always have a threat on transition but we played really good. One of the best performances in my seven years.

"The players knew we weren't playing bad. One goal down and we continued to do it and had just a bit of chat at half time and were lucky to score the second goal. But then at 2-1 the game was stable."

Man City will look to continue their strong run of form when they travel to St Mary's to face relegation-threatened Southampton in their next match in a weeks' time.
