Liverpool kept their Champions League hopes alive in the most dramatic manner possible as their goalkeeper scored a 95th-minute winner against West Bromwich Albion in the standout moment of gameweek 36.

In contrast, West Ham United's top-four chances suffered a major blow as they were held by Brighton & Hove Albion, while Everton's European hopes were hit by a home defeat to relegated Sheffield United.

Tottenham Hotspur gave their own top-six chances a big boost as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in North London.

There was a seven-goal thriller on Friday night as Manchester City overcame Newcastle United in a topsy-turvy affair, while Leeds United also netted four times in their win over Burnley.

The goals flowed freely at Selhurst Park too as Crystal Palace beat Aston Villa 3-2, and Southampton were victorious by a 3-1 scoreline against Fulham.

Here, Sports Mole selects its Premier League team of the week for gameweek 36.

DEFENCE

Alisson Becker simply had to get the gloves in this week's team after his truly incredible stoppage-time winner for Liverpool against West Brom, making history in a number of ways.

In any normal week, Aaron Ramsdale's performance for Sheffield United against Everton may have been enough to earn him the place, but Alisson not only produced one of the most memorable moments in Premier League history, but also made some important saves at the other end to make the winner possible.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was also instrumental in Liverpool's victory, making some important defensive contributions and posing a threat going forward throughout, before providing the assist for Alisson's winner.

It was a memorable weekend for Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell, who scored his first ever Premier League goal and also chalked up an assist in the Eagles' win over Aston Villa.

Conor Coady found himself on the losing side for Wolves against Spurs, but it could have been a lot worse had it not been for the defender, who made a number of crucial blocks in the first half.

Emil Krafth, Pascal Struijk and Diego Llorente all deserve honourable mentions at centre-back too, but Brighton's Dan Burn completes our back four for his role in the draw against West Ham.

MIDFIELD

Leeds were the biggest winners of the weekend with a 4-0 drubbing of Burnley, and Jack Harrison was the chief architect of that with a goal and then two assists to complete the rout.

Kalvin Phillips also deserves a mention from that game, but it was impossible to look past Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park after he scored one and created another in Tottenham's win over Wolves.

Hojbjerg is joined in the middle by Thiago Alcantara, who controlled the game for Liverpool against West Brom, even if they did have to rely on a late set piece to ultimately make their dominance count.

Nathan Tella is one of two substitutes to make the cut in this week's team, having come off the bench to score one and assist another in Southampton's win over Fulham.

There was plenty of other competition for the wide areas, with Mohamed Salah, Raphinha and Wilfried Zaha among those in contention, while James Ward-Prowse, Ilkay Gundogan and Eberechi Eze also deserve mentions in midfield.

ATTACK

Rodrigo Moreno is the second sub to be included in this XI, making the most of his 32-minute cameo with a brace off the bench in Leeds' win over Burnley.

His strike partner went one better than that, though, with Ferran Torres helping himself to a hat-trick to see champions Manchester City past Newcastle.

Torres's hat-trick heroics made him a shoo-in for this week's team, but there was still stiff competition for places up front.

Harry Kane, Che Adams and David McGoldrick deserve mentions, while it was also a special weekend for youngster Daniel Jebbison, who marked his full Premier League debut with a goal as Sheffield United beat Everton.
