Mohamed Salah equals Ian Rush goalscoring record for Liverpool with West Ham brace

Mohamed Salah becomes the first Liverpool player since Ian Rush to score 20 or more goals in four successive seasons courtesy of his brace against West Ham United.

Mohamed Salah scored for the first time in seven Premier League matches with a fine second-half brace in Liverpool's 3-1 victory against West Ham United on Sunday.

A curling effort from the Egyptian opened the scoring for Jurgen Klopp's side 12 minutes after the break, before a wonderful counter-attacking move was finished brilliantly by Salah, who controlled Xherdan Shaqiri's looping cross before tapping the ball past Lukasz Fabianski.

Roberto Firmino came off the bench to set up Georginio Wijnaldum for the third, before defender Craig Dawson added a consolation for the Hammers.

Salah became the first Liverpool player to score more than 20 goals in four consecutive seasons since club legend Ian Rush did so six times between 1981 and 1986.

The 28-year-old – who has now scored nine Premier League goals against West Ham, his best return against any side in the competition – is now three ahead of Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min as the leading scorer in the league with 15 strikes.

Liverpool moved up to third in the table with their second win in four days and are now to prepare for two successive matches at Anfield, firstly against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday before next Sunday's clash against Manchester City.
