Steven Gerrard: 'Aston Villa are not a stepping stone'

:Headline: Steven Gerrard: 'Aston Villa are not a stepping stone':
Newly-appointed manager Steven Gerrard dismisses suggestions that Aston Villa are regarded as a stepping stone ahead of him potentially returning to Liverpool.

Steven Gerrard has described suggestions that Aston Villa are regarded as a stepping stone ahead of a potential return to Liverpool as "unfair".

During his time at Rangers, Gerrard was often touted as the long-term replacement to Jurgen Klopp, partly a result of their contracts being due to expire at the same time.

However, the Reds legend left Ibrox for Villa last week, taking the opportunity to return South of the border earlier than anticipated.

Despite acknowledging that an eventual return to Liverpool is a dream, Gerrard has talked up the chance given to him in the West Midlands.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Gerrard said: "I'm all-in and I will give this job everything that it needs for it to be a success. I'll be 100% committed and so will my staff.

"It's very unfair and you'll never hear me saying it's a stepping stone. For me, I'm really honoured and proud to be in this position.

"There is nothing wrong in football with having dreams and aspirations but Liverpool have got a world class coach [in Jurgen Klopp] that they are very happy with. If he was to sign a lifetime deal right now, then I would be very happy for them and him."

Gerrard will take charge of his first game on Saturday with Villa squaring off against Brighton & Hove Albion. body check tags ::
