Mohamed Salah has become the first player in Liverpool's history to score in nine consecutive matches, after netting a brace in their thrilling 3-2 victory against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Egyptian opened the scoring at the Wanda Metropolitano, with his deflected strike in the eighth minute, shortly before Naby Keita doubled the Reds' lead five minutes later.

Atletico got back into the game with two strikes from Antoine Griezmann, but the enthralling encounter was eventually decided by Salah, who converted from the penalty spot in the 78th minute, sending goalkeeper Jan Oblak the wrong way to ensure Liverpool maintain their 100% start in Group B.

Salah is firing on all cylinders so far this campaign and has now scored 12 goals in just 11 matches across all competitions.

Liverpool's 2-0 victory at Anfield against Burnley back in August is the only game in which the 29-year-old has failed to register either a goal or an assist this season.

Salah has already cemented his name in the record books this term, after scoring his 100th Premier League goal against Leeds United in September, making him the fifth-fastest player in history to reach his century.
