Ligue 1 champions Lille will be looking to extend their unbeaten run across all competitions to 11 matches when they travel to Bordeaux on Wednesday night.

The hosts, meanwhile, are hoping to claim back-to-back league wins for the first time since May and steer themselves clear of the relegation zone.

Match preview

Bordeaux recorded the biggest victory in their 140-year history when they demolished Mayotte-based outfit Les Jumeaux M'Zouasia 10-0 in the third round of the Coupe de France last weekend.

Four goals from M'Baye Niang as well as strikes from Timothee Pembele (2), Abdel Medioub, Javairo Dilrosun, Issouf Sissokho and Josh Maja helped the hosts cruise into the round of 32 for just the second time in five years.

Head coach Vladimir Petkovic was pleased to see his side secure successive victories for the first time this campaign, albeit against one of the weakest teams remaining in the competition.

Bordeaux now turn their attention to Ligue 1 where they have struggled throughout this season, winning only three of their 18 league games – only basement club Saint-Etienne have won fewer matches.

The Girondins also head into Wednesday's fixture after losing each of their last four meetings against Lille, though they have won five of their last seven home games against them.

Victory against Lille in midweek would be their first against the reigning champions of Ligue 1 since March 2015, and could move them five points clear of the relegation zone.

For the sixth successive season, Lille have advanced into the fourth round of the Coupe de France after they beat Ligue 2 outfit Auxerre 3-1 on home soil last weekend.

Three first-half goals from Angel Gomes, Jonathan David and Zeki Celik put the hosts firmly in control, and despite the visitors pulling one back three minutes after the break through Remy Dugimont, Les Dogues held on for the victory.

Jocelyn Gourvennec's side have now extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 10 matches, including six league games without defeat.

The Ligue 1 champions are still a staggering 20 points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain, but there are only seven points separating Les Dogues in 11th place from second-placed Marseille, who they will face in just under a month's time.

Lille have only won two of their last 14 matches away against Bordeaux across all competitions, though that does include last season's 3-0 victory in February.

Les Dogues, who have only won a third of their 18 league games this term, could climb as high as fifth in the table if they were to secure all three points in midweek.

Team News

Bordeaux's only injury concern is with experienced defender Paul Baysse, who is still recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture and is set to remain sidelined until next month.

Niang is yet to start for the Girondins in the league this season, but after netting four goals at the weekend, he will be hoping to force his way into the first XI ahead of Alberth Elis.

Creative midfielder Yacine Adli is set to operate in the number 10 role, in front of centre-midfield duo Otavio and Jean Onana, who were both rested at the weekend.

As for Lille, forward Timothy Weah and back-up goalkeeper Leo Jardim are suffering with respective muscle and neck injuries and are unlikely to feature until the beginning of 2022.

Gourvennec surprisingly named a strong side for their cup victory at the weekend, with the majority of his first XI expected to start again on Wednesday.

David, Burak Yilmaz, Renato Sanches and Jonathan Ikone, who were all substituted in the second half against Auxerre, could start again, while Reinildo is in contention to play at left-back ahead of Tiago Djalo, after serving a one-match suspension.

Bordeaux possible starting lineup:
Costil; Mexer, Koscielny, Gregersen; Kwateng, Otavio, Onana, Mensah; Adli; Niang, Hwang

Lille possible starting lineup:
Grbic; Celik, Fonte, Botman, Reinildo; Ikone, Andre, Sanches, Bamba; David, Yilmaz

We say: Bordeaux 1-2 Lille

Earlier this season, Bordeaux may have fancied their chances of beating a struggling Lille outfit, but with Les Dogues now enjoying a stronger run of form across all competitions, Wednesday's hosts are set to face a much tougher challenge.

Lille might not secure another comfortable three-goal victory as they did last season, but they should have enough quality in their side to come away with all three points.
