Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Mainz 05 striker Jean-Philippe Mateta during 2021.

Mainz 05 striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Leeds United.

The Yorkshire giants have scored 30 goals from their 17 Premier League matches this season, the fifth-best return in the division.

However, with Rodrigo Moreno playing in a deeper role, Marcelo Bielsa lacks direct competition for top goalscorer Patrick Bamford.

According to Football Insider, club officials are monitoring the development of Mateta ahead of a bid at some point during 2021.

The 23-year-old has contributed seven goals and one assist during his 14 appearances in the Bundesliga this season.

With the Frenchman still possessing two-and-a-half years on his contract, Mainz remain in a strong position regarding the player's future. body check tags ::
