David Wagner: 'Red card changed the game against Cardiff City'

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner claims that Jonathan Hogg's sending-off during the goalless draw with Cardiff City was a "game-changer".

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner has claimed that Jonathan Hogg's sending-off during this afternoon's goalless draw with Cardiff City was a "game-changer".

Hogg was given his marching orders by referee Michael Oliver shortly past the hour mark after being alerted to a clash between Hogg and Cardiff's Harry Arter by his assistant.

The Huddersfield skipper butted heads with Arter before shoving him to the ground, and Wagner suggested that Hogg was not "clever" enough as Arter escaped with only a yellow card.

"It was a game-changer wasn't it. The incident with the red card was soft but, to make it totally clear, Hoggy has to solve the situation better. It was two aggressive players in this moment," Wagner told reporters at his post-match press conference.

"One was much more clever than the other and unfortunately the clever one was not my player. Until this moment we controlled the game, we were the team which wanted to play forward and create opportunities.

"We always say when we keep the tempo high you get chances in the last 10-15 minutes. I can say now it was a good point for us, but if we could play the last half hour like we played the first hour I would be very disappointed with a point."

The result handed Huddersfield their first point of the campaign, lifting them off the bottom of the table in the process.
