Derby County manager Wayne Rooney is set to have an interview for the vacant Everton position, according to a report.

The Toffees fired Rafael Benitez after their most recent defeat against Norwich City, with the club currently sat 15th in the Premier League table.

They have been linked with former manager Roberto Martinez and current Roma boss Jose Mourinho; however, deals for each of those men are unlikely.

According to The Sun, Rooney is set to have an interview for the role, with Bill Kenwright seriously considering the Derby County manager.

The former Manchester United striker began his career with Everton, and the 36-year-old made 77 appearances for the first team across two seasons, scoring 17 goals.

While the club look to appoint a new manager on a permanent basis, Duncan Ferguson has taken over on a caretaker role, and he will be in charge on Saturday when the Toffees face Aston Villa. body check tags ::
