Seamus Coleman reflects on dealing with criticism as the Everton captain, insisting he would rather deal with that than others.

Everton club captain Seamus Coleman has reflected on dealing with criticism from the role that he is in.

The Toffees are 15th in the table after winning five of their opening 17 matches, having gained 19 points so far in the Premier League this season.

The full-back has featured 13 times throughout the campaign, and he has been a regular with the club since joining back in 2009, having taken on the armband in August 2019.

"There were a few occasions in the past when my form was under scrutiny," Coleman said in the recent Everton matchday programme.

"I am captain of the club and a familiar face. I would rather it be me than someone coming through, or a player who has just signed for the club.

"I can take it on the chin and understand you have to accept the good and bad together."

Everton will be back in action on January 2 when they face Brighton & Hove Albion in their latest Premier League fixture.
