How England could line up against Ukraine

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how England could line up for their Euro 2020 quarter-final with Ukraine.

England manager Gareth Southgate must decide whether to stick with a back three or revert to a four-man defence for their Euro 2020 quarter-final with Ukraine on Saturday.

The Three Lions deployed three centre-backs against Germany, which worked to great effect during a stellar 2-0 success, and with Ukraine also set to line up with a trio of central defenders, Southgate ought to field a similar setup in Rome.

Harry Maguire demonstrated his return to fitness with a man-of-the-match performance in the last 16, and the Manchester United man should therefore link up with John Stones and Kyle Walker in a so far impenetrable defence.

Ben Chilwell is back in contention, but Luke Shaw has produced the goods on the left-hand side and should keep his place, while Kieran Trippier will hope to shake off any minor fitness concerns to keep Reece James out of the team.

Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips would miss the semi-final if they are booked in this fixture - assuming England progress - so it would not be a surprise to see Southgate bring in Jordan Henderson for the quarter-final.

Bukayo Saka enjoyed another unexpected start against Germany, but Mason Mount has completed his own period of self-isolation alongside Chilwell and is a strong candidate to take over from the Arsenal youngster, who has suffered a slight knock in training.

Raheem Sterling is a shoo-in after netting his third of the tournament in the quarter-final, while Harry Kane broke his Euro 2020 duck with England's second of the day and his 35th for the Three Lions.

England possible starting lineup: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Trippier, Rice, Henderson, Shaw; Mount, Kane, Sterling
