How England could line up against Germany

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how England could line up for their Euro 2020 last-16 clash with Germany on Tuesday.

England will have to make late calls over the involvement of Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell for their Euro 2020 last-16 clash with Germany on Tuesday evening.

The Chelsea duo were forced into self-isolation after being identified as close contacts of the COVID-positive Billy Gilmour, and both men are due to be released from quarantine on the morning of the game, which could lead Gareth Southgate to adopt a cautious approach over their involvement.

Recent reports have been torn as to whether Southgate will stick with a 4-2-3-1 or revert to a three-man defence, but England navigated the group stage without shipping a single goal and have no need to fix what is not broken.

Harry Maguire was fit enough to start alongside John Stones against the Czech Republic and that partnership should resume here, while Kyle Walker and Luke Shaw will be expected to continue as the full-backs if Southgate sticks with a back four.

Jordan Henderson is back in contention to start for the Three Lions, but Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips could be preferred from the off against Germany, although Jude Bellingham's experience of the Bundesliga could come in handy.

Bellingham's Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho continues to be frustrated in his quest for starts and is expected to warm the bench here, but there could be a change on the right regardless as Bukayo Saka may be harshly dropped for Phil Foden.

Jack Grealish should keep his place after providing the assist for Raheem Sterling's winner against the Czechs, and the Manchester City man is in no danger of losing his place having scored England's only goals in the tournament so far.

Harry Kane is yet to find his shooting boots at Euro 2020, but there is no chance of Southgate dropping his talisman for a clash of this magnitude.

England possible starting lineup: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Phillips; Foden, Grealish, Sterling; Kane
