Sports Mole previews Sunday's Eredivisie clash between Ajax and Emmen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Two of the most in-form teams in the Eredivisie go head-to-head on Sunday as Emmen travel to the Johan Cruyff Arena to take on Ajax.

Both sides have picked up 10 points from their last four games apiece, more than any of the other 18 outfits in the division.

Match preview

Ajax's seemingly unstoppable march towards the title continued as they held off the threat of AZ Alkmaar to secure a 2-0 victory on Sunday.

Davy Klaassen scored twice in the second half to move Erik ten Hag's men within a point of their 35th Eredivisie trophy.

De Godenzonen will now set out to finish the job on Sunday in front of their supporters, who they will hope are all smiles by the full-time whistle.

Standing in their way is an Emmen side that have lost each of their previous four meetings with the league leaders by a combined score of 20-2.

The most recent of those victories was a 5-0 rout in November's reverse fixture where Saturday's hosts put up a five-star performance.

Emmen's upward spiral goes on as they recorded a third consecutive victory following a 3-1 win over Heracles on Sunday.

Michael de Leeuw was the star of the occasion, netting a second-half treble to move his side within a point of safety.

Only Ajax have a longer active unbeaten streak than Saturday's visitors, who have now picked up 18 points from the last 24 available.

That impressive run of form has reinvigorated what was once looking like a hopeless season, but there is still work to be done if Dick Lukkien's men are to preserve their top-flight status for another year.

Team News

Daley Blind sustained an ankle injury while on international duty, and he is expected to be unavailable for the visit of Emmen.

Andre Onana is ineligible to partake in footballing activities until next February after testing positive for Furosemide in a drug test that was conducted in October.

Seventeen-year-old Naci Unuvar is also a huge doubt for the clash as the Dutch winger is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

Luciano Carty is ruled out for the visitors with a shoulder problem which has kept him out of action for the past five months.

Michael de Leeuw's treble last time out took him up to 12 league goals, and seven of them have come since the turn of the year.

Ajax possible starting lineup:
Stekelenburg; Martinez, Timber, Tagliafico, Rensch; Gravenberch, Alvarez, Klaassen; Tadic, Haller, Antony

Emmen possible starting lineup:
Verrips; Cavlan, Bakker, Araujo, Bijl; Moussa, Vlak, Pena; Frei, Adzic, De Leeuw

We say: Ajax 4-0 Emmen

With the finish line in sight, Ajax need no further motivation to secure all three points this weekend. We expect them to do just that in an emphatic fashion and end the day as champions.
