Maatsen signs new Chelsea deal, joins Dortmund on loan

Chelsea have agreed a new contract with Ian Maatsen before allowing the Dutchman to join Borussia Dortmund on loan.

On the back of a successful stint at Burnley, Maatsen had been hoping to establish himself as a regular in Mauricio Pochettino's new-look starting lineup.

Instead, the Netherlands Under-21 international has been restricted to three starts and 12 substitute outings in all competitions.

With just 18 months remaining on his contract, conversations have been held to determine the best way to continue his development, Chelsea having been open to a sale in January.

Ian Maatsen signs new Chelsea deal, joins Dortmund on loan

"Borussia Dortmund tried hard to find me. I've been following BVB and its fans for a long time and was even at the Champions League game in Manchester in autumn 2022 to see the team live on the pitch," he told the Dortmund website.

"I'm very happy that it's now the loan worked out. I promise that I will give everything for the team's success and I'm really looking forward to the Yellow Wall."

Real 'considering signing Osimhen instead of Mbappe'

Real Madrid are reportedly having doubts over whether to pursue a deal for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

For a number of years, there has been a frequent link between Los Blancos and the 2018 World Cup winner, the feeling being that he will eventually move to the Bernabeu.

However, in 2022, Mbappe famously made a late U-turn, rejecting the chance to complete a switch to Real in favour of extending his stay at Parc des Princes.

Twenty months later and the clubs are each facing a similar scenario, Real waiting in the wings while Mbappe decides where to spend the next phase of his career.

Arrizabalaga 'worried Real Madrid will send him back to Chelsea'

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is reportedly concerned that Real Madrid will not sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.

Throughout pre-season, Arrizabalaga appeared to cement himself as first choice for Chelsea, the plan being that he would start the first Premier League game against Liverpool.

However, in the days beforehand, Thibaut Courtois suffered a serious knee injury, leading to Real swiftly moving to sign Arrizabalaga on a straight loan deal for the campaign.

Since his arrival, the 29-year-old has made no secret of his desire to remain at the Bernabeu in the long term, there being an assumption that a deal could be negotiated with his parent club.

Liverpool's Luke Chambers joins Wigan Athletic on loan

Wigan Athletic have signed Liverpool defender Luke Chambers on loan for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old drops down to League One after making his first four senior appearances for the Reds in the first half of the campaign, debuting against Leicester City in the third round of the EFL Cup.

Since being handed his Liverpool baptism by Jurgen Klopp, Chambers has turned out in three Europa League matches - earning starts against Toulouse and Union SG - and he has made the bench on four occasions in the Premier League.

Owing to injuries to Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, Chambers was the only recognised left-back in Klopp's ranks for a short while, but the experienced Joe Gomez was preferred on that side of the backline.

Man United 'to rival Liverpool for Leeds youngster Gray'

Manchester United have reportedly identified Leeds United youngster Archie Gray as a potential transfer target.

While Gray has long been tipped as a top prospect at Elland Road, being just 17 years of age seemingly made it unlikely that he would be granted regular first-team football under Daniel Farke.

Instead, Gray has accumulated the third most minutes in the entire squad in the Championship, making 25 starts and two substitute outings in all competitions during 2023-24.

Although the majority of his outings have come in the unfamiliar role of right-back, the level of his performances there and in central midfield have further enhanced his reputation.

Wigan sign Luke Chambers on loan from Liverpool

"I'm over the moon to sign here. It's such a historic club with a lot of great players here, and I've come here to help the team win games and get as far as we can in the league," he told the club website.

"I came to watch a few of the games - I thought the style of play was good, and I feel like I fit right in. The Club has a great following also, which makes it intriguing.

"It's about getting experience now. I had a little snippet of first-team football back in January, so it's about building on that and looking to push my career. I can't wait to get going, show the fans what I can do and hit the ground running."

Manager Shaun Maloney added: "I'm really happy to get Luke through the door. He's the perfect profile for that left-back position; he can play in a three as a centre-back or as a full-back, he brings lots of technical quality, and he's good physically.

"We need competition. We've relied very heavily on Sean Clare and Steven Sessegnon, and now we've got Luke Robinson back, so it gives Tom Pearce time to get back to his best, but overall, I think Luke's got a lot of talent, and I'm really happy to have him here."

Conor Coventry joins Charlton from West Ham

"The vision of the gaffer and the people behind the scenes with where they want to take the club," Coventry told the Charlton website when asked why he joined.

"I'm from London so I know what this club means to people and the size of it. I'm really looking forward to buying into what is going on here and being a part of it."

Manager Michael Appleton added: "I'm delighted we've been able to sign Conor. He's someone that quite a few years ago I took on his very first loan at Lincoln. To be able to be reunited with him on a permanent deal I'm delighted with.

"He's very, very comfortable on the ball and knows his position really well. He's a good passer of the ball, with good technique, and he's got a steeliness to him as well which I like - a bit of nastiness to him. He's one who lives his life right and is a proper professional."

Charlton Technical director Andy Scott also commented on the transfer, saying: "We're really pleased to secure the signing of Conor. He's a player we've been chasing for a long time.

"We've beaten off a number of competitors, not only in League One, but in the Championship as well. He's shown how committed he is to Charlton and what we want to achieve here. It's an exciting signing for the club and I'm sure the fans will enjoy watching him on the pitch."

Transfer rumours: Hannibal to Sevilla, Lingard to West Ham, Reyna to Marseille

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri reportedly favours a switch to Sevilla over Everton amid ongoing speculation over a possible loan move.

The Tunisia international made a name for himself with Championship outfit Birmingham City last season but has been restricted to just 10 senior appearances for the Red Devils in 2023-24.

Since netting his first Premier League goal in a 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in September, Hannibal has only made another four appearances in the top flight and was also overlooked for a start against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.

Both Sevilla and Everton have been heavily linked with a loan approach for the 20-year-old this month, and according to the Manchester Evening News, his head is leaning towards moving to La Liga.

Brentford sign Turkish youngster Yunus Emre Konak

Brentford have completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Yunus Emre Konak from Turkish Super Lig side Sivasspor.

Konak, who turned 18 on Wednesday, has signed a contract until the summer of 2029, with an option to extend by a further year.

Brentford director of football Phil Giles told the club's website: "Yunus is an exciting young player and we are very happy to have managed to bring him to Brentford.

"He's a player that likes to be aggressive, close players down, win tackles, and get the ball back for his team.
