Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Scottish Premiership clash between Dundee United and Celtic, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Celtic will be looking to clinch the Scottish Premiership title when they travel to Tannadice Park to face Dundee United on Wednesday night.

The Hoops require just a point to be crowned champions, while the Tangerines could consolidate fourth spot if they claim maximum points on home soil.

Match preview

Celtic could have won the Premiership title on Sunday if Dundee United had not lost 2-0 against Rangers at Ibrox.

Despite frustrating the Gers in the first half, Tam Courts's men were unable to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes, and second-half strikes from James Tavernier and Amad Diallo helped the hosts secure all three points.

Dundee United have now won only two of their last 11 league games, but nevertheless, they are still on course for their highest top-flight finish since 2013-14 and have already matched their points total of 44 from last season with two games to spare.

The Tangerines will be keen to return to winning ways on Wednesday, but having won only one of their last 21 league meetings against Celtic, securing maximum points could prove challenging.

Dundee United's recent home form, however, bodes well heading into their midweek clash as they have only lost one of their last seven home games in the Premiership, a 3-2 defeat against Hearts last month.

After playing out a 1-1 draw at home against Old Firm rivals Rangers at the beginning of this month, Celtic returned to winning ways with a comfortable 4-1 home victory over Hearts last weekend.

The visitors took a surprise lead in the third minute through Ellis Simms, but strikes from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, Matt O'Riley and Giorgos Giakoumakis helped the Hoops turn the game on its head and edge closer to top-flight glory.

Ange Postecoglou had a rocky start to life as Celtic boss in the first few months of his reign, but the Australian has since guided his side on a 30-game unbeaten run in the Premiership and they now have one hand on their 52nd top-flight title.

Celtic head into Wednesday's game having won five of their last six league visits to Dundee United, keeping a clean sheet in each of their last three.

The Hoops have also won 13 of their last 15 away league games, drawing the other two, and victory at Tannadice would see them record 14 Premiership wins on the road in a single season for the first time since 2016-17.

Team News

Dundee United quintet Marc McNulty (knee), Maxime Biamou (thigh), Ian Harkes (leg), Peter Pawlett (Achilles) and Calum Butcher (personal reasons) are all ruled out for the rest of the season.

Eighteen-year-old Mathew Cudjoe made his first senior start for the Tangerines against Rangers and he will be hoping to keep his place up front ahead of Nicky Clark.

Scott McMann could replace Adrian Sporle at left wing-back, while experienced midfielder Kevin McDonald may start ahead of Archie Meekison in centre-midfield.

As for Celtic, full-back Josip Juranovic is set to remain sidelined with a knock which he sustained last month, so Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor are expected to start again at right-back and left-back respectively as a result.

David Turnbull was handed his first start since December against Hearts after recovering from a hamstring injury, and the 22-year-old will be hoping to retain his place in centre-midfield alongside O'Riley and Callum McGregor.

Furuhashi, who netted his 18th goal of the season in all competitions last weekend, is set to start again in attack, while Giakoumakis and Liel Abada will be hoping to force their way into the first XI ahead of Jota and Maeda.

Dundee United possible starting lineup:
Siegrist; Neilson, Edwards, Graham; Smith, McDonald, Mulgrew, Levitt, McMann; Watt, Clark

Celtic possible starting lineup:
Hart; Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Starfelt, Taylor; Turnbull, McGregor, O'Riley; Jota, Furuhashi, Maeda

We say: Dundee United 0-3 Celtic

Dundee United have struggled over the years when facing Celtic and another difficult evening could be on the cards on Wednesday.

The Hoops have looked unstoppable in the league since the beginning of October, and we can see them securing a comfortable victory at Tannadice to clinch the Premiership title in style.
