Chelsea forward Armando Broja has reportedly emerged as a potential January transfer target for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After Chelsea repelled interest in the Albania international in the summer, he has been competing with Nicolas Jackson for a place down the centre of Mauricio Pochettino's attack.

However, the 22-year-old is yet to rediscover his best form after nine months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, scoring just the two goals.

With that total coming from seven starts and 10 substitute outings in all competitions, Chelsea are currently deciding whether to acquire another frontman before the end of the month.

Despite suggestions that a big-money bid for the likes of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen or Brentford's Ivan Toney may be in the offing, they are unlikely at this stage.

Furthermore, Chelsea would have to find a solution for Broja if they were to sign an alternative, with there being no benefit for any party if he spends the second half of the campaign on the periphery of the squad.

According to The Guardian, Wolves have emerged as a potential destination in the event that Chelsea give the green light to an exit.

Gary O'Neil has seen Fabio Silva and Sasa Kalajdzic each depart Molineux on loan, linking up with Rangers and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively.

That has occurred to help up space on the Wolves wage bill at a time when FFP remains a lingering issue, and the club's owners will not put themselves at risk of breaching any regulations.

Nevertheless, O'Neil himself has acknowledged that Wolves are attempting to find at least one alternative option for the final third, ideally as soon as possible.

Should an addition be made, it will likely be on loan with the option to buy, a scenario that may theoretically suit Chelsea when more player sales will be required at some stage.

Much may depend on whether Pochettino decides that Broja does not have a future at Stamford Bridge, something that may theoretically only be made if he gets a run of games elsewhere.

In the short term, Broja is likely to be required for the upcoming EFL Cup tie against Middlesbrough on Tuesday, with Chelsea currently facing a 1-0 deficit after the first leg of the semi-final at the Riverside Stadium.
