Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is "not surprised" that Chelsea allegedly want to sign Jan Oblak this summer.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has admitted that he is "not surprised" that Chelsea allegedly want to sign Jan Oblak during this summer's transfer window.

The Blues are said to be prepared to offer a fee of €100m (£90.7m) in an attempt to sign the Slovenia international ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

Simeone has said that it is "logical and normal" that every club in world football would want the 27-year-old, but the Atletico head coach is hopeful that the stopper will remain at the Wanda Metropolitano.

"It does not surprise me, every year our most important players are wanted by the best in the world," Simeone told reporters. "It is normal to always look for the best – and we have many. Some have left and others have stayed.

"I am not surprised that Chelsea admire Jan Oblak, he is a decisive player for us. But he is the captain and our participation every year in the Champions League helps us keep our best players so I hope he will continue with us.

"It is logical and normal that anyone wants Oblak. He is our captain and an important player. I hope we can count on his work, which is enormous for Atleti."

Oblak, who has a contract with his capital club until the summer of 2023, has again been in impressive form this season, keeping 21 clean sheets in 46 appearances in all competitions.
