Sevilla chief: 'Alvaro Morata deal is impossible'

By , Football League Correspondent | 4d
Sevilla cannot afford to sign Alvaro Morata from Chelsea, according to the Spanish club's director of football Joaquin Caparros.

Sevilla director of football Joaquin Caparros has ruled the club out of the running to sign Alvaro Morata, claiming that "it was impossible" to reach an agreement with Chelsea.

Morata's best route out of Stamford Bridge appeared to be a switch to Los Rojiblancos, who declared an interest in the out-of-favour striker earlier this month.

The search for a new club goes on, however, as Sevilla cannot afford to to sign Morata.

"Sevilla is a desirable team for any footballer and Morata wanted to come here, but when we started talking about costs, we realised that it was impossible," Caparros told reporters.

Atletico Madrid are also believed to be in the running to sign Morata, while Barcelona and Bayern Munich have previously been linked.

Chelsea are on the lookout for a new striker, meanwhile, with AC Milan loanee Gonzalo Higuain their top target.
