Napoli make offer for Chelsea, Juventus target Mauro Icardi?

A report claims that Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has been offered a lucrative contract by Napoli that will make him the second-best paid player in Italian football.

Napoli have reportedly offered Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi the chance to become the second-highest paid player in Serie A by swapping clubs this summer.

The 26-year-old appears to be on his way out of San Siro following a breakdown in talks over a new contract, leading to him being stripped of the captaincy earlier this month.

Chelsea and Real Madrid have both been strongly linked with Icardi, but it has been suggested that he favours staying in Italian football.

That left Juventus, who have already confirmed their interest in the Argentina international, as the leading contenders to sign him.

However, Tuttomercatoweb claims that Icardi has been offered a €9m (£7.7m) salary by rivals Napoli, including performance-related bonuses, which would place him behind only Juve forward Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest earner in the division.

Icardi has scored 122 goals in 210 appearances for Inter since joining from Sampdoria in 2013.
