Chelsea 'weigh up January swoop for David Alaba'

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba emerges as a January transfer target for Chelsea, according to a report.

Chelsea are reportedly considering a January move for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The 27-year-old has made over 360 appearances for Bayern since debuting in 2010, while he has also been capped on 72 occasions by the Austrian national team.

Alaba largely operates as a left-back but has played in central defence on a number of occasions this season due to his team's problems in that area of the field.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have recently been linked with a move for the Austrian, with his contract at the Allianz Arena due to expire at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

However, according to The Mirror, Chelsea are also in the hunt as head coach Frank Lampard looks for a dependable left-back due to the struggles of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.

The Blues are free to conduct transfer business this month having had their ban reduced on appeal.
