How Chelsea could line up against Leicester City

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Chelsea could line up for Tuesday's Premier League clash with Leicester City.

Chelsea continue to have doubts regarding the fitness of Mateo Kovacic and Andreas Christensen due to hamstring injuries ahead of Tuesday's crucial top four clash with Leicester City in the Premier League.

Kovacic has missed the Blues' last 10 matches due to the injury he sustained against Crystal Palace last month, with his dynamism in midfield sorely missed since.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had indicated that the Croatian would be available for Saturday's FA Cup final defeat to Leicester, but he was not included in the squad.

However, Tuesday could instead be a realistic return date for Kovacic as the Blues look to gain revenge over the Foxes and increase their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League in the process, so it would be little surprise to see the 27-year-old line up alongside N'Golo Kante in midfield, with the out of form Jorginho dropped as a result.

Christensen's chances of returning in time to feature against Leicester seem more remote, with Tuchel recently revealing that the expected return date for the Denmark defender is the final day trip to Aston Villa next Sunday.

Given the quick turnaround and disappointment of the defeat to Leicester at Wembley on Saturday, Tuchel could make several changes to the side which was narrowly defeated by Youri Tielemans's wondrous strike in the second half.

Thiago Silva started in both defeats to Arsenal and Leicester last week and may be replaced by Kurt Zouma given that the Brazil defender is 36 years of age, while Ben Chilwell is likely to come back in for Marcos Alonso at left wing-back.

Reece James started on the right of Tuchel's back three to combat Jamie Vardy's pace, with this tactical switch proving to be one of the better aspects of Chelsea's performance at Wembley, so it could be repeated once more.

Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech both misfired in attack, though, and their places could be under threat to allow Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic a starting berth.

Chelsea possible starting lineup: Mendy; James, Zouma, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Chilwell; Mount, Havertz, Pulisic
