British property tycoon Nick Candy is reportedly preparing to make a £2.5bn approach for Chelsea by the end of the week.

A week on from Roman Abramovich putting the Premier League giants up for sale, the West Londoners have seemingly been inundated with interest.

If reports are to be believed, Chelsea are ready to set a deadline for bids to be lodged in an attempt to establish serious candidates.

According to the Daily Mail, Candy is ready to join the race for Chelsea, and is said to be "exploring a number of options" regarding a potential bid.

A spokesperson for Candy is said to have told the outlet: "Mr Candy has a huge affinity with Chelsea. His father was asked to play for the club and he has been watching matches at Stamford Bridge since the age of four.

"The club deserves a world class stadium and infrastructure and Mr Candy's unique expertise and background in real estate would be a hugely valuable asset to delivering this vision."

The report adds that Candy is regarded as an attractive option by American investors, partly due to wanting to make use of his expertise when it comes to either making improvements to Stamford Bridge or building a new stadium. body check tags ::
