Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Real Madrid

Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg with Real Madrid.
Sports Mole

Chelsea will be aiming to pull off an incredible Champions League comeback when they face Real Madrid in the second leg of their quarter-final tie on Tuesday night.

Thomas Tuchel's side saw the defence of their crown left in tatters after a 3-1 loss in the first leg at Stamford Bridge, with Karim Benzema netting another delightful hat-trick on the night.

However, the Blues responded in perfect fashion during Saturday's Premier League meeting with Southampton - hitting Ralph Hasenhuttl's lacklustre side for six without reply.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the second leg.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Ben Chilwell remains in the treatment room as he works his way back from knee surgery, and the left-back is highly unlikely to play again this season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Status: Out
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: Unknown

Callum Hudson-Odoi has suffered a setback in his recovery from an Achilles issue, and Tuchel recently conceded that it will be "a matter of weeks" before the Englishman can be considered for selection again.

Romelu Lukaku

Status: Out
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: April 17 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Romelu Lukaku was dealing with pain in his Achilles before the win at Southampton, and having been forced to miss the encounter at St Mary's, he will not travel with the team for the second leg.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: COVID-19
Possible return date: April 12 (vs. Real Madrid)

Cesar Azpilicueta returned a positive COVID-19 test on Friday, but he has now returned several negative tests and will be fine to travel with the team for the second leg.

Ross Barkley

Status: Out
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: Unknown

Tuchel revealed at his pre-match press conference that Ross Barkley would miss the second leg due to illness, but he was never likely to earn any minutes anyway.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Chelsea have no players suspended for the second leg.
